Egypt’s food imports surge by $502.9M in Jan.-Aug. 2022 – Egypt Today

CAIRO – 29 November 2022: Egypt's imports of food rose by 6.5 percent in the first eight months of 2022 to record $8.2 billion up from $7.7 billion during the same period last year, with an increase of $502.9 million.

The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) indicated Tuesday that palm oil came on top with $989.5 million, followed by frozen meat with $958.5 million. Those surged by 26.1 percent and 52.7 percent, respectively.

The spike also occurred among the imports of concentrated milk by 31.5 percent ($198 million), tuna by 34.9 percent ($193.9 million), cow livers by 5.9 percent ($143.3 million), and baby formula by 2.5 percent ($73.9 million).
