Executive council of UNESCO issues decision on supporting member states of AWARe initiative

Egyptian Irrigation Minister Hany Sweilam asserted that the executive council of the UNESCO issued a decision on supporting member states of the Action on Water, Adaptation, and Resilience (AWARe) international initiative.

In a statement on Thursday, Sweilam said that AWARe initiative was launched during COP27 that was held in November 2022 in Sharm el Sheikh, adding that it aims at asserting the importance of water as it is a pivotal issue in the context of facing the impacts of climate change, boosting resilience and adopting effective policies in the field of water.

The decision aims at asserting the commitment of UNESCO to support the AWARe initiative and rally the support needed from the UNESCO member states in addition to offering technical aid to the countries affected by water scarcity and climate change, especially in African countries.
