Sugarcane harvest starts in Manah



MANAH: Omani farmers in the Wilayat of Manah in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate began harvesting the sugarcane for 2024 season, on Sunday.Sugarcane is one of the most important agricultural crops owing to its contribution to food security. The Wilayat of Manah is well-known for cultivation of sugarcane alongside other wilayats of the Sultanate of Oman.Mohammed bin Harib al Bahlani, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources in the Wilayat of Manah, said that farmers in the Wilayat of Manah are keen on continuing the cultivation of sugarcane crop which gives them good economic revenues. Sugarcane is in high demand by all society segments especially the owners of the traditional Omani halwa factories.

He noted that the area planted with sugar cane in the Wilayat of Manah this year reached 15 acres with an expected output of 9 tonnes of red sugar from 61 farms, compared to last year’s figure of 7 tonnes. Sugarcane cultivation season begins in February or March each year.
