UAE’s mission to Mars sets record-low cost

Abu Dhabi - Mubasher: The UAE Hope Mars Mission has been completed at a cost of $200 million, which is one of the lowest in the world when compared to similar programmes, Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported late on Tuesday.





The Hope Probe, the Arab world's first mission to Mars, was accomplished within only six years while similar missions take at least 10 years, the Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Gergawi said in a media briefing.





Moreover, the probe will provide key scientific data that will be offered to the scientific community all over the world for free.





The Emirates Mars Mission team succeeded to develop 200 new designs, locally manufacture 66 pieces of the probe components, publish 51 related research papers while benefitting more than 60,000 participants through the Mission's scientific and academic programmes.





"Today, the mission also reached another milestone, when the spacecraft was positioned on to the rocket that will send it into space," Al Gergawi said.





The Hope Probe is set to liftoff on 15 July 2020 at 00:51:27 UAE time from the Tanegashima Space Centre and is expected to enter the Mars orbit in February 2021, coinciding with the UAE's
