Bahrain’s Personal Data Protection Law launched online

The Ministry of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments is working on implementing the Personal Data Protection Law in line with the international standards. The ministry was delegated the duties and powers of the Personal Data Protection Authority by Decree-law 78 / 2018. The ministry published drafts of implementing regulations of the law on the Personal Data Protection Authority̢۪s website: www.pdp.gov.bh inviting companies and individuals to provide their views and/or suggestions by the end of June 2021. Additionally, the ministry is working directly with the regulators of specific sectors to facilitate consultation on the draft regulations to ensure the smooth implementation in the various sectors and to consider all sector specific requirements. This will facilitate the establishment of governance and audit processes in relation to personal data processed by all public and private entities. It also ensures that effective measures are implemented in protecting personal data including mitigating any breaches of privacy. The aim is to have a clear, reliable and secure regulatory framework consistent with best practice. The ministry also affirmed its commitment to enhance and protect individuals̢۪ rights of privacy, by applying mechanisms to protect individuals from serious privacy breaches.
