Cairo Eye to be inaugurated in 2022, investments worth EGP 500 mln: Officials

Cairo Governor Khaled Abdel-Aal announced on Thursday that the Cairo Eye project is implemented with investments estimated at EGP 500 million and that it aims to achieve sustainable tourism development.

In statements to MENA on Thursday on the sidelines of launching the Egypt Eye project, the governor said that the Cairo Eye project was established on an area of 20,000 square meters. 

Abdel-Aal stated that it targeted attracting about 2.5 million visitors per year.

He added that it was integrating with Ahl Misr Walkway project, which is currently being implemented on the Nile Corniche in Cairo in line with the current government efforts to upgrade the capital.

The Zamalek-based project will house Cairo's first ferris wheel, the largest of its kind in Africa, he said, noting that it is set to be 120 meters high and will provide a panoramic view of the city.

An integrated recreational area will also be established around the ferris wheel to serve as a tourist destination, he added.

The project of Cairo Eye is being implemented and will be operated by Hawaii for Tourism and Investment.
