Egypt free from Contagious Equine Metritis: OIE

CAIRO - 15 January 2022: Egypt is free from the Contagious Equine Metritis (CEM) as it has been announced by the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE), stated Egyptian Minister of Agriculture Al-Sayed Al-Qusseir in a statement on Saturday. “This announcement crowns the ministry’s efforts in the development of livestock and supports Egypt’s leading role at the regional and international levels,” the minister said in the statement. He added that the OIE announcement comes in light of the implementation of Egypt's strategy towards reaching new horizons by supporting the export of Egyptian horses, especially the purebred Egyptian Arabian horses. In March 2021, the OIE announced Egypt is free from equine Pythiosis (Syphilis and glandors diseases). In October 2020, President Abdel Fattah El Sisi directed the concerned bodies to focus on breeding pure and Egyptian-Arabian stallions and to establish a large horse ranch in Egypt, said Egyptian Presidential Spokesperson Bassam Radi in a statement.
