Egypt ready to resume GERD talks targeting binding deal: Irrigation ministry

Egypt said it is ready to resume negotiations with the target of reaching a binding agreement on the rules of filling and operating the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), said the Egyptian irrigation ministry on Monday.

"The Egyptian delegation expressed readiness to resume negotiations on the basis of the outcomes of the mini-African summit held on 21 July and the ministerial meeting held on 3 August which call for sealing a binding deal on the rules of filling and operating the Renaissance Dam,“ the Egyptian statement added.

Renewed African Union-brokered talks between Egypt, Sudan, and Ethiopian over the disputed dam have been postponed again for one week -- to be held on 17 August -- upon Khartoum's request, said the three countries in separate statements on Monday.

The statements were
