Egyptian, South Sudanese irrigation ministers discuss matters of mutual interest

CAIRO – 18 July 2021: Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources Mohamed Abdel Aty discussed Sunday with his South Sudanese counterpart Manao Peter, who is paying Cairo a visit, matters of mutual interest and bilateral cooperation. The projects implemented by the Egyptian ministry in South Sudan are digging six underground water wells in the capital, Juba; installing a lifting unit to transfer streams water to residents in the city of Wau; preparing technical and economic studies for the implantation of the multipurpose Wau Dam; building river quays; and, cleaning the bed and canals of Bahr el Ghazal River between Wau City and Bentiu City until Lake No. Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources Mohamed Abdel Aty inaugurated on June 23 an underground water treatment plant built by Egypt in South Sudan's Lemon Mountain. The plant consists of a well lying in a depth of 100 meters, a reservoir whose capacity is 36 cubic meters, and a pump powered by solar energy. The plant is connected to public taps through pipes providing dwellers with water.
