Kuwait MPs seek to prevent new government from taking oath

KUWAIT CITY – The newly formed Kuwaiti government, headed by Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, is still facing serious challenges as it seeks to ease tensions with Parliament. This comes as the country is hoping for quick solutions to a number of complex issues, including the health crisis that resulted from the pressure of the coronavirus pandemic and a financial crisis, exacerbated the pandemic on the one hand, and the fluctuation of oil prices on the other.

In a bid to prevent the new government from taking the constitutional oath in front of the National Assembly,  32 MPs have announced that they will boycott the parliamentary session slated for Tuesday. Earlier, Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim invited the MPs to the upcoming session.

The new government is expected to take the oath during this session whose agenda includes six bills and two grilling motions against HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid. MPs Khalid Al-Otaibi, Thamer Al-Suwait and Badr Al-Dahoum submitted one of the grilling motions against the premier while MPs Muhammad Al- Mutair and Hamdan Al-Azmi submitted the other.
