Lebanon leaders say ready to cooperate in Beirut blast probe

BEIRUT--Lebanon’s ruling elite, accused of hampering the judiciary’s investigation into last year’s Beirut port blast, in an attempt to diffuse public anger, are rallying to demonstrate their good intentions and readiness to cooperate after months of stalling.

On Friday, Lebanon’s president Michel Aoun told the country’s public prosecutor he was ready to give a statement about the port blast if it were needed.

“No one is above the law no matter how high up and justice can only be achieved through the specialised judicial branches that provide guarantees,” Aoun was reported as saying in a statement to prosecutor Ghassan Ouidat.
