Kansas City Library’s Whenever Book Club To Meet Online At Patrons’ Convenience

Kansas City Library is introducing a new kind of book club in 2021: the Whenever Book Club. The virtual book club “will connect through a private forum where all participants can discuss the current book and network with each other.” In other words, if you'd like to be part of this book club but have an erratic or busy calendar, or just aren't sure if you'll have time to finish reading the book club's selection by a certain date, you don't have to worry, because you can participate at any time (“whenever”) that suits your schedule.

The Whenever Book Club will read one book every two to three months, a more relaxed schedule than the monthly reads of many other book clubs. Their first selection for January 2021 is the New York Times bestseller dark fantasy horror novel Lovecraft Country by Matt Ruff, the basis for the HBO show of the same name.

The book club is open to both members and non-members of The Kansas City Public Library. Library cardholders will be able to check out the book club's selections as ebooks for free, while non-cardholders are responsible for acquiring their own copy of the book.
