Schumer On $2,000 Stimulus Checks Amid Trump Impeachment Push: ‘We Will Get That Done’

As House Democrats prepare for a Wednesday vote to impeach President Trump after the deadly riot at the U.S. Capitol last week, incoming Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) doubled down on his commitment to passing legislation that will increase the direct payments in the last stimulus bill to $2,000 along with additional Covid-19 relief measures including state and local aid and more money for vaccine distribution.

In a letter to Democratic colleagues Tuesday, Schumer said Democrats will “immediately” begin work on these priorities once the new Democrat-led Senate is in place, and asks lawmakers to consider Covid-19 emergency relief legislation the “first order of legislative business” of the new Senate.





Schumer's assurance comes amid worries that a potentially lengthy impeachment trial will derail Democrats' and President-elect Biden's ambitious plans to inject trillions more stimulus dollars into the economy. 







In
