Black-Owned Businesses Receive Push From Brooklyn Designer

Designer Aurora James' 15% pledge to support black businesses has been signed by such notable companies as Rent the Runway, Sephora and West Elm. Smaller companies like Credo Beauty, Violet Grey and Lobo Bride have also signed That is a good start but black-owned brands need mores support from the retail industry



Aurora James is the founder of New York City based footwear and accessories label Brother Vellies. She suggested on Instagram last week one way in which retailers could lend their genuine support is by pledging to buy at least 15% of products from black-owned businesses since 15% of the U.S. population is black.



After several weeks of demonstrations across the world after the killing of George Floyd there has been a strong support from individual businesses and brands for the Black Lives Matter movement. Only Aurora James has come up with the idea of retailers and brands lending genuine support by making this pledge.
