Muscat: The Court of First Instance in Muscat recently issued a ruling against a commercial establishment for violating the Consumer Protection Law.The court convicted the accused of misdemeanor for failure to provide services in a proper manner and in proportion to its nature. The ruling also included an OMR1,000 fine while obligating the institution to pay the plaintiffs, an amount of OMR3875.25 as well as litigation expenses.A statement issued online by Consumer Protection Authority said : "A consumer stated that he had hired a commercial establishment to build a house. However, the organisation delivered the house after a year and six months, a period that exceeds the agreed time period. Also, the consumer noticed the presence of defects in the house, specifically in the landing of the house's floors, due to his being affected by the climatic conditions that affected the Sultanate during that period.""Accordingly, the consumer directed his complaint to the authority, which in turn took the necessary measures in such cases. The complaint was examined and it became clear that the institution violated Article (23) of the Consumer Protection Law.
