The 2020 Emmy nominations arrived and like most years there were pleasant surprises for some and disappointments for many others“”like the women of the cast of Pose. Records were also broken: Netflix's whopping 160 nominations smashing the record for the most nominations given to a single network, and two Black women made nominations history.



Nicole Byer of Nailed It! is now the first Black woman to ever be in contention for the award of Outstanding Host For A Reality Or Competition Program. Byer is known for her various comedic roles (The Good Place, Brooklyn Nine-Nine), voiceover work (Bob's Burgers, Tuca & Bertie) and leading her own show (Loosely Exactly Nicole). She follows RuPaul Charles, who in 2016 became the first Black person to be nominated for the award and has won it every year since. The nominations of Byer and Karamo Brown (for Queer Eye) alongside Charles also make this the first year where multiple Black people have
