Abu Dhabi records AED 9bn investments in renewable energy – official

Abu Dhabi - Mubasher: Abu Dhabi's total investments in renewable energy reached more than AED 9 billion, the Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy (DoE), Awaidha Murshed Al Marar, told the Emirates News Agency (WAM).

Al Marar said that Abu Dhabi has various clean and renewable energy projects, including Barakah Nuclear Plant, Al Dhafra solar project, and Noor Abu Dhabi Solar Power Project.

The Chairman of the DoE further remarked that Abu Dhabi has produced 2.16 million megawatt-hours of electricity from renewable energy sources in 2020.

Hence, 7.2% of the emirate's total energy is generated from renewable sources last year.

Al Marar further remarked that the UAE seeks to raise the contribution of clean energy to the total energy mix to 50% by 2050 and reduce the carbon footprint of power generation by 70%, thus saving AED 700 billion.
