UAE bans import of eggs, live birds from UK and Netherlands

The UAE has indefinitely banned the import of all live domestic and wild birds, ornamental birds, chicks and hatching eggs and their thermally non treated products from the UK and Netherlands.

The announcement was made by the UAE's Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MoCCAE) on Monday afternoon.

In November, the ministry had banned the import of birds and their byproducts from four countries on bird flu concerns.

That decision was taken since the regions recorded an outbreak of the highly pathogenic avian influenza during November 2020 as per notifications from the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

That ban covered areas of the UK, along with the Netherlands, Germany and regions in Russia.

However, the latest ban covers all areas of the UK.

In December, the MoCCAE lifted the ban on importing hatching eggs, table eggs, chicks, and processed beef, veal, mutton, lamb, goat, and chicken meat from Egypt, in addition to opening the door for importing live cattle and sheep from the country.
