CAIRO – 21 December 2020: 112 years have passed since the establishment of the oldest Egyptian universities, Cairo University. It was established on December 21, 1908.

 

It was initially named Fouad I University, then Cairo University, after the revolution of July 23, 1952.

 

It includes a large number of university faculties.

 

Founding and establishment of the Cairo University was anything but an easy task.

 

The elite of national action leaders such as Mohammad Abdo, Mustafa Kamel, Saad Zaghloul, Qasim Amin and Mohammad Farid faced many difficulties when establishing Cairo University.

 

They found great opposition from the British occupation authorities, especially Lord Cromer, who strongly opposed the idea so that there would be no cultured class among the Egyptians, who would in turn seek independence in liberating the land and Egyptians.
