Lecture at AGU highlights impacts of Dyslexia Syndrome

The Arabian Gulf University (AGU) recently held a lecture on dyslexia syndrome titled “Dyslexia and its Impacts on Teachers, Parents and Students”. Delivering the lecture was Learning Difficulties Associate Professor at the University Dr Hanan AL Hammouz. In the lecture, Dr Al Hammouz explained that dyslexia syndrome is one of the complex syndromes that begins at an early age and overlaps in most cases with other syndromes, such as lack of attention and hyperactivity, adding that about 70 percent of dyslexia cases suffer from hyperactivity and lack of attention. Dr Al Hammouz clarified further saying: “Dyslexia is a form of specific learning difficulty associated with cognitive construction in brain functions that includes phonemic awareness, word analysis, visual processing, processing speed, and both short and long-term memory. Students suffering from dyslexia usually process data through only one region of the brain, unlike normal conditions, which rely on three regions of the brain to process texts, which results in difficulty seeing and reading words.” Speaking about the diagnosis of dyslexia, Dr Al Hammouz mentioned that symptoms indicating the existence of this syndrome include rapid forgetfulness, slow processing, and problems with solving duties.
