Eco-friendly boat sails across 7 governorates to mark Ramadan

Muscat – To mark the holy month of Ramadan and promote sports in communities, the Governorate of Musandam and OQ, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, launched Marsa al Khair on Thursday.

Marsa al Khair comprises a team sailing the waters off the seven coastal governorates of the sultanate in an eco-friendly boat using wind energy.

Considered the first of its kind in the sultanate to sail across the coastal governorates during Ramadan, Marsa al Khair showcases the strong connection of Omanis with the sea and the maritime legacy of the country to the younger generation.

Marsa al Khair was flagged off on Thursday by H E Sayyid Ibrahim bin Said al Busaidi, Governor of Musandam, from where it will sail to North Batinah, South Batinah, South Sharqiyah, Dhofar and Al Wusta, before ending in Muscat.

Several sports and recreational activities for school students and families are planned at every port of call.
