Egypt’s supply of medical oxygen is stable, strategic stock of 1.16 mln litres were provided: Health minister

Egyptian Health Minister Hala Zayed stressed on Saturday that Egypt "is in a stable stage“ regarding the supply of liquid medical oxygen and clarified that the state's strategic stock has reached 1.16 million litres, a cabinet statement said

.

Zayed's remarks came during Saturday's meeting of Egypt's Higher Committee, who are tasked with managing the coronavirus crisis in which the minister reviewed the status of oxygen availability in light of the pandemic.

The health minister indicates that the ministry is coordinating with Egypt's Unified Procurement Authority (UPA) in this regard and that it has been agreed to activate maintenance contracts for gas networks nationwide, adding that the maintenance of the networks is currently underway.

It has been agreed to provide 1,700 flow meters -  which are devices for measuring the rate of gas or liquid and also control their flow - for the ministry to replace the old used ones in order to reduce the loss of oxygen, the minister added.

She also clarifies that cooperation with the ministry of trade and industry is ongoing, in terms of providing the required quantities of medical oxygen, working to increase its local production and increase strategic stocks, in addition to working on
