Barring an unprecedented rally today, September is set to close as the first down month for markets since March. This has also been the worst September for stocks in 18 years, despite chipping away at some losses 3 out of the last 4 trading days. The indices traded lower pre-market, but trimmed losses at the open on hopes of a stimulus package passing as Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said he was ‘hopeful' it would happen. ADP's monthly private-sector jobs count also showed better than expected results, with growth of 749,000 in September, ahead of the 600,000 expected.
