Mali minister of religious affairs visits Zakat Fund



Mali's Minister of Religious Affairs and Worship Mamadou Kone and his accompanying delegation visited the Zakat Fund Department at the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs. During his visit, the minister was briefed on the Qatari experience in Zakat work. The Assistant Director of the Zakat Fund Department, Ahmed Sultan al-Misifri, gave an explanation of the fund's work and its role in society.

He said that the Zakat Fund Department at the Ministry of Endowments is a government agency to which the law has assigned the jurisdiction to collect Zakat funds, and to pay them to those entitled inside Qatar who meet the conditions of legitimate banks. He explained that the fund performs the duty of inviting the community to give charity and sacrifice, and spreads the jurisprudence of Zakat through conducting media campaigns, organising specialised scientific and jurisprudence courses, and regular courses for calculating corporate Zakat to disseminate Zakat culture among economists in Qatar and abroad.

He pointed out that the fund includes qualified cadres to conduct social and field research in order to deliver aid to those who deserve it. The Mali minister expressed his desire for co-operation between the ministries of the two countries in order to
