EU Asks Countries to Offer Partial Payments, Vouchers and Deferments for High Energy Bills

In an effort to help households in the European Union's 27 member nations deal with the impact of high energy prices, the EU's executive branched advised that governments adopt tax cuts, state aid and other measures as debate resumes on use of nuclear power, the Associated Press reported.

Months of economic turmoil spurred by the COVID-19 pandemic prompted the European Commission to seek a rapid and joint response to help ease the effects of price increases, especially for low-income citizens.

"Rising global energy prices are a serious concern for the EU. As we emerge from the pandemic and begin our economic recovery, it is important to protect vulnerable consumers and support European companies," EU Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson said.
