Assad reshuffles Syrian cabinet amid harsh economic crisis
DAMASCUS –
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has appointed a new oil minister and changed four other ministers in a cabinet reshuffle, official news agency SANA said on Wednesday.
Hassan Kaddour, who was the general director of the Syrian Petroleum Company for the last two years, replaces Bassam Touma as oil minister, the report said.
The lower prices, deterioration of the Syrian pound and difficult economic conditions made the "Wednesday Market" popular among people living in the northeastern city and the surrounding areas.

The economic crisis leading to the volatilization of the currency in Lebanon accentuated the needs of vulnerable Syrian and Lebanese households. Many households find it difficult to plan their expenditures and save money.

I am visiting #Lebanon🇱🇧 which is facing multiple crises, putting more and more people at risk.
Lebanon also hosts some 1.5 million Syrian refugees, the highest number of refugees per capita in the world.
Around 4 million people need humanitarian aid to meet their basic needs.

I reiterated today at #UNSC that overcoming the repercussions of the #Syrian crisis requires the sincere political will of Member States to help #Syria, support the achievement of early recovery&economic reinvigoration & allow Syrians to build a better future for their homeland.
Lebanese forces fired tear gas at hundreds of people protesting the worsening economic crisis.
About 75% of Lebanon’s 6M people, including 1M Syrian refugees, live in poverty.
Less than 5% of households get government aid, and 94% have trouble paying for essentials, per @hrw.
