‎Saudi merchandize imports up 20% to SAR 61 bln in August

Saudi Arabia’s merchandize imports rose by 20% year-on-year (YoY) in August to SAR 61.02 billion, according to data issued by the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT).

Imports grew month-on-month (MoM) by SAR 3.78 billion, or 7%, in August.

The increase in the Kingdom’s imports in August was driven by a 24% YoY hike in its imports of machinery and mechanical appliances, electrical equipment and parts thereof, in addition to imports of other products.

China topped the Kingdom's list of import countries, amounting to SAR 13.04 billion, accounting for 21% of the total value of imports in August.

The US and UAE followed in the second and third positions at 7% and 6%, respectively.

The top 10 countries through which these imports were made accounted for about 61.5% of total imports, amounting to SAR 37.5 billion, as indicated below:
