Bahrain participated in the virtual meeting of the Friends of the United Nations Interagency Task Force on the Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases. The side event focused on mobilizing resources and technical support with and for Member States to deliver the NCD and mental health-related SDG targets. In her remarks, Health Minister Dr. Jalila bint Sayed Jawad Hassan affirmed the commitment of the government to strengthening efforts to prevent and combat non-communicable chronic diseases, and noted that such diseases cause significant health, social and economic burdens. She also stressed the role of the recently launched 2022-2025 working group strategy and the importance of country engagement with the United Nations to achieve the sustainable development goals related to non-communicable diseases by unifying efforts and coordinating international collective responses. Bahrain has established mechanisms to support work by strengthening effective partnership between various sectors to achieve indicators of comprehensive health coverage and to provide highly efficient digital information systems to improve and develop the standards of services, she said. The minister said that Bahrain is moving forward towards strengthening its partnerships with other countries in exchanging experiences and best practices.
