India’s second wave of coronavirus infections continued to swell as it reported a record 115,736 new cases on Wednesday, a 13-fold increase in just over two months and raising pressure on the government to expand its vaccination campaign. The federal government has asked states to decide on local curbs to control the spread of the virus, but has so far refused to impose any national lockdown after the last one in 2020 devastated its economy and left millions of people penniless. The total number of cases since the first recorded infection in India just over a year ago now stands at 12.8 million, making it the third worst hit country after the United States and Brazil.Comments Read Next2 hours agoAll US adults eligible for vaccine by April 193 hours agoBahrain: 1,020 new COVID-19 cases announced14 hours agoKuwait reports 1,403 new Covid-19 cases, 8 deaths23 hours agoUAE reports 1,988 new Covid-19 cases, 4 deaths23 hours agoOman reports 1,208 new Covid-19 cases, 6 deaths1 day agoBahrain: Wedding participants accused of breaching health protocols1 day agoActive coronavirus cases in Bahrain reach 10,045 yesterday2 days agoSaudi to issue Umrah permits for vaccinated pilgrims2 days agoSaudi confirms 7 COVID-19 deaths, 695 new cases2 days agoIndia’s coronavirus more...
