26th Aswan Int’l Sculpture Symposium postponed to curb spread of Covid-19

Originally planned to take place between January and March, the 26th edition of the Aswan International Sculpture Symposium has been postponed to January 2022, the Supreme Committee of Symposium revealed in an official announcement on Monday.

This year the symposium's aim was to bring together sculptors from Egypt, Russia, Brazil, Belgium and India.

Operating under the Cultural Development Fund of the culture ministry, the symposium accepted artists' entries for participation until mid-December 2020.

As the preparations continued to take place, the governmental measures aiming to curb the spread of COVID-19 has caused the suspension of more than one festival.

The Aswan International Sculpture Symposium was founded in 1996 by the late artist Adam Henein and had taken place annually since.

The symposium invites Egyptian and international artists to create works, mainly from granite, in an open air location in Aswan.
