Egypt reports 878 new coronavirus cases, 55 fatalities on Monday

Egypt reported 878 new coronavirus cases and 55 deaths on Monday, the country's health ministry said in a statement.

The total infection tally reached 157,275, while the death toll hit 8,638 since the outbreak began domestically in mid-February.

The statement said that 498 patients have been discharged after recovering from the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries to 123,491.

Also, four Egyptian doctors succumbed to the deadly virus over the last 24 hours, according to the Egyptian Medical Syndicate's count.

The total number of doctors who died with covid-19 has so far reached 327, the syndicate said.

Egypt entered the second wave of the pandemic in the last week of December as it began recording double the number of infections daily, compared to the preceding months.

However, detected daily cases have been varying in the past week.
