Egypt Steps Up Measures to Prevent Spread of Indian COVID-19 Variant

Egypt on Monday announced strict precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the Indian COVID-19 variant in the country.

Presidential Advisor for Health Affairs Mohamed Awad Tageldin affirmed Monday that exceptional and precautionary measures were taken in this regard, particularly at airports.

According to Tageldin, Egypt did not detect any case of the Indian Covid-19 variant so far.

Also, the Ministry of Religious Endowments has banned night prayers in mosques, stressing that ministry employees are not allowed to violate the decision.

It called on Egyptians to perform night prayers at home, saying the decision comes in line with the instructions from the Higher Committee for the Management of the Coronavirus Crisis.

For her part, Health Minister Hala Zayed highlighted her team’s efforts in raising awareness through several campaigns, especially during holidays and religious occasions.
