This comes opposite the rise witnessed in daily infections last weekend. Starting 31 December, and for four consecutive days, the health ministry reported more that 1,400 new cases daily. According to Wednesday's statement by the health ministry, the recorded 1,007 new coronavirus cases brought the total infection tally to 145,590 nationwide since the outbreak began in mid-February.  The health ministry also reported 57 new deaths, bringing the total number of deaths from the virus to 7,975.
