AGU hosts lecture on Covid-19 impacts on mental health

The Arabian Gulf University (AGU) recently hosted a lecture on the impacts of the novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic on mental health. Delivered by Psychiatry Department Head at AGU Dr Mariwan Husni, the lecture was titled “Coronavirus Pandemic Effects on Mental Health and its Impact on Professional Careers”. The lecture was part of the Economic Decision Makers third session, which is organised by Bahrain Developments SMEs (BDSMES) under the patronage of Shura Council Speaker HE Mr. Ali Saleh Al Saleh. During the lecture, Dr Mariwan discussed the psychological impacts of a pandemic on the mental health history, with the aim of confronting its consequences, and indicating its effects on individuals, families and professional careers. Dr Mariwan said that the unpredictable impacts of the Coronavirus effected mental health, creating high-level anxiety, fear, social distancing and many other effects. He also pointed out that the rapid spread of Covid-19 has exceeded all expectations, having impacts on psychological health and creating new habits, as the fear of being infected has a social, economic and psychological impact. Additionally, Dr Mariwan stated that the widespread pandemic impacted mental health worldwide and the social distancing have caused psychological distress for many individuals around the world. “This
