Why At-Home Testing Is A Cure For Destructive Covid Lockdowns

This segment of What's Ahead has exciting news for you: Cheap, self-administered Covid-19 tests with rapid results are feasible.

The implications are profound. If you test positive, you isolate. If negative, you go about your business. People could self-test twice a week or more. Those who actually are infected would be separated in real time.

With these tests politicians would no longer have justification for the blunderbuss lockdowns that are proliferating as COVID-19 cases surge. Painful experience has shown that lockdowns are largely ineffectual and do immense harm: lost wages, serious mental health problems and bankrupt businesses.

The FDA has just approved the first over-the-counter, self-administered tests that give results in 20 minutes and cost less than $30.

But Harvard's brilliant epidemiologist Dr. Michael Minam has pointed out that manufacturers could quickly create small testing sticks that provide results in less than two minutes. Congress could jumpstart the process by appropriating seed money: as little as $1 billion. Within months, we could have 50 million tests a day.

What are we waiting for?
