Will Negative Covid-19 Test Be Required For Domestic Air Travel?

Uncle Sam may propose a rule requiring a negative Covid-19 test for all domestic airline travelers. This segment of What's Ahead explains why such an idea should be grounded.

It won't make air travel safer. Planes constantly refresh onboard airflow. Face masks are mandatory. There are hardly any cases of people having contracted the disease on a flight.

Making air travel even more inconvenient will unnecessarily hurt an already ailing industry.

Traveling by car as an alternative? For people traveling any distance there will be stops for gas, food and restrooms, not to mention an overnight, perhaps, at a hotel or motel“”all opportunities for getting Covid-19.

Such a regulation would divert personnel from more pressing needs, such as administering vaccines or testing vulnerable populations.

This idea just doesn't fly.
