UAE grants emergency use of Russian Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine

DUBAI: The UAE approved on Thursday the Russian Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine for emergency use, state news agency WAM reported.

Sputnik V is the third vaccine to be approved by the UAE, those of Sinopharm and Pfizer-BioNTech jabs, and would also become part of the country's effort to prevent the spread of the virus.

The Gulf state hosted the third phase of clinical trials for Sputnik V, developed by the Gamaleya Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology and the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation.

The UAE has been seeing an increased number of daily ases, with a record high of 3,506 new cases being registered on Wednesday.
