UAE stun Ireland in first ODI since Covid-19 outbreak

Batting first, Ireland made 269 for five in 50 overs. In reply, the home team reached home, losing four wickets in 49 overs

The UAE pulled off a historic win over Ireland in the first One Day International at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Friday.

C Rizwan and Muhammad Usman scored centuries as the UAE beat Ireland by six wickets for their first-ever win against a full-member nation in the format.

Chasing a tricky target of 270, the UAE were precariously placed at 51 for three but Rizwan and Usman breathed life back into it for a famous victory.

After Rizwan had made 109 from 136 deliveries with nine boundaries and a six, Usman and Waheed Ahmed shepherded them home.

Usman remained unbeaten on 102 from 107 balls with seven boundaries and three sixes, while Ahmed scored 18 not out from 10 deliveries with two fours and a six.
