Egypt to install high-level e-system to its 3 railway lines

CAIRO – 3 April 2021: Egypt seeks to develop its railway system but installing a high level electrical system on its three main lines.

The Ministry of Transport along with three global companies are working to develop the new system by June 2022.

Egypt's largest line is the Upper Egypt line with more than 850 kilometers.

“This system will eliminate any issues facing drivers and the railway station towers,” Transport Minister Kamel el-Wazir said.

He further added that another parallel project to develop the signal system at railway stations in the country is underway, and cost L.E. 1 billion.   

The Egyptian Railway Authority further announced the completion of the rehabilitation and repair of 20 tractors as part of 81 tractors. The authority has received 110 U.S. new tractors on six
