Egyptian, Lebanese PMs discuss power linkage, gas exportation as they meet on 2022 WYF sidelines

CAIRO – 10 January 2021: Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly discussed on Monday with his Lebanese counterpart, Najib Mikati, enhancing cooperation regarding gas exportation as well as means of achieving power linkage between the two countries. Madbouly met Mikati in Egypt, as the Lebanese premier has been in the country to attend the World Youth Forum (WYF) in South Sinai’s Sharm El-Sheikh. During the meeting, Madbouly urged continuing providing all forms of support possible to Lebanon. He also welcomed Mikati’s invitation for him to visit Lebanon at the earlier opportunity in support of the Lebanese people. Mikati expressed his sincere appreciation to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Madbouly, and the Egyptian government for the diligent follow-up on issues of cooperation with Lebanon, and the sincere desire and efforts to stand by Lebanon in times of difficulties. The Lebanese premier met with El-Sisi earlier on Monday. Madbouly said the president’s meeting with Mikati came to confirm the political leadership’s keenness on continuing Egypt’s support to Lebanon so that it overcomes the current critical stage. In December last year, Sisi promised to study the possibility to increase the share of Egyptian gas that would be exported to Lebanon via Syria soon, said Mikati
