CAIRO – 22 March 2021: Egypt has previously announced its ambitious plan to increase the share of the renewables in its energy mix to reach 42 percent by the year 2035. In the below lines, et will highlight the latest developments by the government towards achieving this goal.

 

In 2019, the amount of renewable energy generated rose by 2,000 megawatts to record 6,000 megawatts composing 11 percent of the 55,000 megawatts generated in Egypt annually.

 

In May 2020, the total amount of renewable energy generated on grid reached 5,800 megawatts. It is planned that the share of renewable energy in the total amount of energy generated becomes 20 percent in 2022 and 42 percent in 2035.
