Trump seized on Biden’s promise to ‘transition away from oil,’ but the move away from fossil fuels is nothing new

President Donald Trump attacked former Vice President Joe Biden during Thursday night's debate for promising to "transition from the oil industry."

Biden argued that the oil industry, which he said "pollutes significantly," should no longer receive federal subsidies and needs to be replaced by renewable energy "over time."

Trump claimed that Biden is "going to destroy the oil industry" and a slew of Republicans attacked Biden over his comments. 

The idea that Democrats want to replace fossil fuels with renewable energy sources is nothing new. 

Polling shows Americans are increasingly concerned about climate change, think Trump hasn't done enough to address the issue, and want more drastic action to be taken going forward.
