The Mauritius oil spill this summer in the Indian Ocean has had more twists and turns than most ship incidents.  Indeed, more than a John Grisham plot for that matter.

When international authorities sent in to investigate the grounding of the Japanese Bulk Carrier, the Wakashio, started making statements as early as August that were found to be false and misleading, suspicions were immediately raised.
