Oil And Gas Will Not Be Left Out Of The Energy Transition To Net-Zero, Biden Team Emphasizes

When U.S. Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm made her first public appearance today, she said — paraphrasing — that this is America's moment and this is what the government is meant to do: to provide opportunities. The reference is to rebuilding the American economy by making it carbon neutral by 2050. 

Granholm's remarks came during CERAWeek by IHS Markit 2021. She praised the oil and gas industry for its contributions to the global economy and for employing millions of people all over the world. At the same time, those industries recognize that the world is on a path to decarbonize and that they, too, have chosen to diversify their portfolios — not just investing in fossil fuel development but also in such things as carbon capture, wind and solar, and battery technology.
