This significant legislative development aims to consolidate various existing media regulations into a single, comprehensive law, reflecting the rapid advancements and changing practices in media activities.

During a review session, Abdullah bin Hamad al Harithi, Chairman and Rapporteur of the Committee on Information, Tourism and Culture, presented the committee’s report. He detailed the articles proposed for amendment with justifications and reasons.

Parallelly, Dr Ahmed bin Ali al Saadi, Chairman of the Legislative and Legal Committee, outlined the legal viewpoints on the proposed changes, emphasising the collaborative efforts to refine the draft.

The new legislation is set to replace several older laws, including the Press and Publishing Law, the Private Radio and Television Establishments Law, and the Censorship of Artistic Works Law. These changes are in response to the significant evolution in media dynamics over the years, which has made existing laws inadequate.
