World News: Projects from Oman, India, Kenya, Australia, and UK win Prince William’s £1 million Earthshot Prize – Gulf Digital News

The Prince and Princess of Wales hosted a glitzy gala ceremony yesterday in America for an initiative aimed at tackling global warming and handed up big cash prizes to projects from Oman, India, Kenya, Australia, and the UK.

The Earthshot prize was established by Prince William to fund projects that aim to save the planet, each receiving £1 million to develop their innovations.

Details of the top entries were unveiled at the event in Boston and they include Talal Hasan’s project 44.01 from Oman in the 'Fix Our Climate' category. Hasan's 44.01 aims to convert carbon dioxide into peridot, a rock. This process claims to be a more low-cost and safe alternative to traditional methods of storing carbon dioxide.

The other winners were:

• Clean our Air: Mukuru Clean Stoves, Kenya – A start-up providing cleaner-burning stoves to women in Kenya to reduce unhealthy indoor pollution and provide a safer way to cook.

• Protect and Restore Nature: Kheyti, India – A pioneering solution for local smallholder farmers to reduce costs, increase yields and protect livelihoods in a country on the frontlines of climate change.

• Revive our Oceans: Indigenous Women of the Great Barrier Reef, Australia – An inspiring women-led program that combines 60,000 years
