Saudi Culture Ministry & SAIP sign MoC to protect intellectual property

Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property (SAIP) and the Ministry of Culture have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) aimed at safeguarding the intellectual property in all cultural fields.

The signing ceremony was held in the presence of Deputy Minister of Culture Mr. Hamed Fayez and SAIP Chief Executive Officer Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Suwailem.

Both parties highlighted areas of cooperation, which included intellectual property policies against infringement and violation, raising awareness of intellectual property rights, and improving local cultural content.

Under the partnership, both entities will be engaged in establishing an intellectual property management office at the ministry, providing intellectual property registration, forming a non-profit organization to protect creators’ rights, and participating in international cultural agreements.

The memorandum is part of the ministry’s efforts to strengthen the cultural sector’s business opportunities by creating a professional and attractive environment for creative production and investment, as well as boosting the creative economy.

The ministry and SAIP stressed that achieving these goals will contribute to the mainstreaming of culture in the lifestyle of the Saudi society, which will eventually lead to culture becoming a major component of domestic economic output as well as an important tool in enhancing the Kingdom’s global position.
