Saudi’s Tarshid completes Phase 1 of streetlight retrofitting project – MEP MiddleEast

Saudi Arabia's National Energy Services Company (Tarshid) – which was established by the Public Investment Fund (PIF) to catalyse the development of a more energy efficient kingdom – in cooperation with the Municipality of Tabuk Region, has completed Phase 1 of a streetlight retrofitting project.

The traditional streetlights in the Tabuk region were replaced with LED energy-efficient streetlights. The project is expected to save electricity consumption by more than 70%.

The project included a series of field surveys on the electricity consumption used by traditional lights. Technical studies were also conducted to measure and determine the appropriate lighting required for the streets.

Following these studies and surveys, international standards and Saudi Arabia's specifications were followed to ensure that energy-efficient LED lights were installed to replace the traditional streetlights, while maintaining optimum levels of lighting on the streets.

The project is expected to achieve electricity savings of 81 million kilowatt hours per year and will help avoid 53,000 tonnes of harmful carbon emissions, which is equivalent to the environmental impact of planting approximately 888,000 trees.

In addition, Tarshid has also launched streetlight retrofitting projects in the Al-Baha, Jizan, and Najran regions of Saudi Arabia after completing field surveys and technical studies.
