Midday construction break rule comes to an end – MEP MiddleEast

The rule prohibiting outdoor labour between 12.30 and 3pm comes to an end today (15 September).   The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has confirmed that the legislation, which came into force on 15 June to protect workers during the hotter summer months, is no longer applicable.  The mandatory break was first introduced 15 years ago, and this year helped shield workers from heat exhaustion, heatstroke as well as coronavirus. According to WAM, workers can continue working during the banned hours if they are working on projects that cannot be postponed for technical reasons such as asphalting of roads and laying concrete as well as repairing damage in water pipes, petrol pipes, sewage pipes or the disconnection of electrical lines.
