CPA launches e-guide on prohibited goods



Muscat – The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) launched an electronic guide on Thursday to spread awareness of the danger of using or keeping prohibited goods among both consumers and service providers.

An official at CPA affirmed the authority’s commitment to creating a secure consumer market, free from hazardous products that could jeopardise health, safety, and overall well-being.

“The authority remains vigilant in monitoring market activities and takes necessary actions to regulate the sale, circulation, and purchase of various commodities.”

In its pursuit of consumer safety, the authority has banned several goods after conducting thorough market research. Testing of samples collected from markets confirmed their harmful effects on health.

Prohibited goods and prohibited substances fall under different categories.

“Prohibited goods are those banned due to defects or violations of approved specifications and standards, while prohibited substances are those prohibited from circulation due to specific provisions in other laws, such as narcotic substances, counterfeit currencies, and certain breeds of ferocious animals,” the official explained.

The newly launched online guide seeks to enhance suppliers’ understanding of prohibited goods, the corresponding regulations, and the penalties for non-compliance.
